As Modesto grew in the 1940s, there was a need for expansion of exisiting county facilities. The courthouse, built in the 1880s, was inadequate after 60 years, so this new building was built and attached to the existing courthouse. The structure still is in use by the county, and the jail and new court buildings were added in the late 1950s, when the old courthouse was torn down. Newer buildings have also been added for County use, but not in Modesto. | ||
