This is one of several drive-in restaurants that were hangouts for teenagers in the mid-1950s and 1960s. While Modesto did not have a Mel's Drive-In, as depicted in "American Graffiti," it did have Al's. This building was located on McHenry Avenue, pretty far from the downtown cruising couplets of 10th and 11th Streets. Still, it did prove a popluar hangout for many years. Of course, it's long gone. | ||
