Modesto Snapshots: The Hotel Hughson

The Hotel Hughson was built in 1914 and prior to the opening of the Hotel Modesto was the centerpiece of hostelry in Modesto in the early part of the 20th Century. This is a very early photograph, since next door to the hotel on the right is a house, rather than the National Theatre and the Hotel Covell. The Hotel Hughson finallly fell into disrepair and disuse from the 1980s through 1998. It was torn down to make way for 10th Street Place, the new City Hall and County Building.
